I’ve known a few people that did the surgery and they Still have pain. But first of all, she should only have one hand done at a time. It would probably take a good month to be able to do anything decent with that hand. Her dr. Should know and he/she should also know to do one hand at a time. She should start now practicing doing things with her less favored hand.

Carpal tunnel Surgery Recovery for stay at home mom?
Hi, my wife, a stay-at-home mom to a 2 and a 3 year old, needs to have carpal tunnel surgery on her dominant hand. We are trying to plan on the amount and types of help that she will need during the recovery time. My questions are: How long should recovery (limited activity) take? What types of activities will she need to avoid? Can she still do most of the day-to-day tasks needed to take care of the kids during her recovery period? Thank you for your help.

For the jerk who answered that it is a stupid question to ask: we are trying to prepare for her visit with the surgeon and trying to determine, in advance, when the best time would be to schedule her appointment and to determine any resources that we would need in advance (such as babysitters) to help during her recovery time. Also, the surgeon may not understand everything that a stay at home mom does and there may be things that he misses when talking to her.

My aunt is undergoing Carpal Tunnel Surgery as well.
She has one 2 year old, one 3 year old and one 5 year old.
Recovery takes about 2-3 weeks. Things you must avoid:
Lifting heavy items during recovering times.
In more severe Carpal Tunnel Surgery Cases, driving may be limited.
But the most important factor is the first one.

James asks…
Recovery time for Carpal Tunnel Surgery? Experiences?
I am considered having surgery for carpal tunnel surgery. I have had it in both hands since the 1970s, but the nerve conduction test didn’t show any abnormalities until 1997. I have it in both hands.
If anyone has had this surgery, I would like to know how long was the recovery time? How bad was it? Were you totally unable to use your hands during the recovery?
That’s what I was afraid of. Being unable to use my hands for three weeks sounds horrible. I have it in both hands. Maybe I can get it done in on only the right hand (which bothers me more than the left).

admin answers:
I had the surgery on both wrists one month apart. Yes, your hand will be totally useless for approx. 3 weeks or so after the surgery date. I’m sure your doc will prescribe some good pain killers to get you through the worst part, other than the first week or so it’s not so bad. Not being able to get it wet is the biggest hassle. I taped a large baggie over the entire hand/wrist area and held it high above the shower spray to keep the bandage from getting wet in the shower which is VERY important so it doesn’t get infected. Once the whole thing is over you will think it was a piece of cake.

Had this done oct.13. I am stiff and sore but the more I use it and bend the better it feels. Are you in therapy?I have done 4 secessions so far .The last one was very painful. It helped loosen everything up though and I feel much better today.Keep up with pain med and anti inflammatory.I also do exercises at home 4-5 times a day.It is very painful and frustrating. My doctor said 8 weeks before I can go back to work.Hope he is correct.Good luck!
