Rash after surgery.?
Ok, here’s what happened. i had knee surgery 9 days ago, and after taking off the immobilizr and putting on a hinged knee brace, I got his rash, and I’m not sure what to do about it. The brace is clean. It’s just below my knee, it’s red and feels like scales. There is also one on my thigh (under side that feels the same, but I’m not sure what color it is (couldn’t get a pic w/ my phone to see. So…uh, any suggestions as to what to do, and maybe what caused this? I’ve got my own specilations, but I’d like to hear others.
Thanks to who answered. It wasn’t due to surgical tape, it was contact dermatitis. I went to an urgernt care clinic and got it looked at. Thanks a ton!

I say that you need to call the nurses hotline immediatley. I wouldn’t mess around with anything near an open wound. I think it could be Contact dermatitis. Caused from what… I Don’t know. But the scale part sounds about right.. I think you need to go to the doctor and have them check it out. No need risking anything.

Itchy rash after surgery?
So I had laparoscopic surgery 6 days ago for adhesions in my abdomen. They entered in 4 places, and dressed my wounds with steri strips and then a type of goz on top and then a type of plastic kind of like saran wrap. After taking off the bandages I developed horrible itchy red raised rashes on all the enter sites. It looks like it would be contact dermatitis, but I have been applying the highest percent triamcinolone cream possible to the rashes for 3 days now and it is not working. It is just spreading the more I scratch it. Any suggestions in what this might be and what I should do to treat it??? Thanks

Hope this helps. Make sure you ask your physician if there is something he could recommend.
Personally I suffered such a reaction or at least a similar one so, for my input here we go: (1) Whatever you do DONT scratch. You can use ice packs to make them feel better for no more than 20 minutes at any one given time. Also, if your skin is very red and looks almost like a raised sunburn you could be allergic to the type of plastic wrap. Usually they use a patch called Tegaderm which is what I was allergic to. Also, there are types of chemicals in birth control patch which could cause same type of red raised area which itches and burns at same time. Needless to say no more birth control patches for me. Therefore, the doctor had to prescribe Silvadene due to the damage of my skin which was in sensitive area.*breasts”. Silvadene helps the area heal quickly, keep you from losing any layer of skin in any area affected. It was my saving grace and made the area better quickly. Again please check with your doctor about this type of med he could prescribe for you. I’d also ask if the gauze could be removed due to fact the steri strips should be doing their job just fine. I wish you the best, truly
